Gmane Hosting

Gmane is hosted in the colocation rack of the Norwegian Internet stock broker Netfonds Bank, who is also donating IP connectivity.

The Hardware

`dough` is the news server, and is a 1U dual dual Core Opteron machine with 8GiB RAM (for disk caching) using a soft RAID1 disk system.
`deer` serves out most of the web content It's a 1U dual 2.4Ghz Opteron with 8GiB RAM, paid by me.
`lo` is the primary MTA, and is a 1U dual quad-core 1.87GHz Xeon "Clovertown" (i.e., Core 2) machine, paid for by sponsorship money.
`rain` is the search engine machine, running Xapian. It's a 2U Athlon 64 2GHz machine, 3GB RAM with 500GB disks for index storage and a spool mirror. It was bought from funds generated by web ads.
`plane` is the new search engine machine, running Xapian. It's a 1U Dual Dual-core Opteron 2.4GHz machine, 16GB RAM with 3x1.5TB disks for index storage and a spool mirror.
`sea` runs weaverd, which is the daemon behind the web interfaces. It's a quad dual-core 2.4GHz Opteron Sunfire v40z machine with 32GB RAM. It's a leftover repurposed from Netfonds Bank.

All the machines run Debian GNU/Linux.
